Acting Director-General, Department of Home Affairs
Over 40 million people enter and leave the country on an annual basis. Both traders and travellers are adversely impacted by inefficient border management. The new legislation aims to establish efficient management of border posts and will involve the coordination of several government departments and State agencies.
The intention of the new BMA is to help prevent, among others, drug-related crimes, human trafficking, illegitimate movement of goods and unauthorised movement of persons.
Mr Mavuso will provide an update on when and how the new BMA will be implemented.
